Mental Health

Close in the Distance offers its spaces and channels free of charge, both in person and online, to psychotherapists licensed to practice according to Italian regulations.

The purpose of this permanent initiative is to facilitate the meeting between therapists and people seeking help, allowing the former to carry out their work with lower costs and fewer organizational difficulties, and the latter to access a more sustainable service.

How does it work?

Anyone interested can simply contact the association at direttivo@closeinthedistance.com.

These are full-fledged psychotherapy sessions, which can take place in person (currently in the Palermo and Milan areas) or online.

The therapists who respond are solely responsible for their professional activity, operating with complete autonomy while respecting legal regulations and professional ethics. However, they can only provide this type of service in Italian.

Who are the therapists?

Currently, two psychotherapists collaborate as associates, one in Palermo and one in Milan. They have different therapeutic approaches to better meet the needs of those seeking support: one follows a cognitive-behavioral approach, while the other adopts a psychodynamic approach.

Areas of Treatment

The areas of intervention of the Close in the Distance associated psychotherapists include:

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Depression and mood disorders

  • Eating disorders

  • Autism spectrum disorders

  • Personality disorders

  • Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

  • Childhood and adolescence, learning disorders

  • Cognitive enhancement

  • Issues related to the hikikomori phenomenon and social isolation

  • Trauma and relationship difficulties

  • Addictions, new digital addictions

  • Stress and burnout

  • Parenting support

After the first contact, an associated psychotherapist will respond directly to schedule an initial consultation, completely free of charge. Following this, the patient and therapist will assess the possibility of starting therapy and determine the details of the process.

Fees and Billing

Subsequent session fees will be set directly by the therapist, taking into account individual needs and the guidelines provided by the Italian Board of Psychologists. However, session costs will never exceed €60.

As independent professionals, therapists will issue regular invoices for each session, ensuring full transparency and compliance with current regulations. It is important to note that, throughout 2025, healthcare services provided to individuals will be invoiced in paper format, in accordance with the ban on issuing electronic invoices for such services.

Psychoeducational and psychosocial activities

In addition to promoting access to psychotherapy, Close in the Distance also organizes psychoeducational and psychosocial activities, particularly aimed at its members on the autism spectrum, with SLD (Specific Learning Disorders), or with other conditions that may make socialization and participation in civic contexts challenging. The activities include:

Guided tours and urban walks to explore the local area in a welcoming, pressure-free environment (Palermo only).

Adapted physical and sports activities, designed to encourage movement and socialization (Palermo and Milan).
