Acting as Therapist and as Association: The CBT-Italia Conference in Palermo
We attended the second National Congress of CBT-Italia in Palermo, which stands for the Italian Society of Cognitive Behavioral Psychotherapy. It was an event full of insights, thanks to the many national and international speakers who shared innovative ideas and explored highly engaging topics.
Besides participating as individual therapists to stay up-to-date, we also took part as an association and as Close in the Distance, conducting dissemination activities for Pitch Perfect. We presented our methodology, the initial results of our workshops, and compared our approach with other practices, ideas, and cultural tools.
Among the most significant moments was the presentation by Dr. Roberta Rubbino, who addressed the challenges and opportunities related to LGBTQIA+ youth, discussing the role of inclusive language and the importance of adult figures in promoting equality and recognition of diverse identities.
We don't engage in training, much less specialized training, and we approach the "issue" from a different perspective, incorporating digital arts, artivism, and more. However, it was very encouraging to see that the segment we’ve chosen—words (spoken and unspoken)—is beginning to emerge in more structured educational contexts.
