A Palermo-based initiative for reading accessibility

On December 17 and 18, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, Close in the Distance is organizing two afternoons dedicated to reading aloud for autistic readers and those with SLD (Specific Learning Disorders). The event will take place at our Palermo headquarters and will be an opportunity to explore reading in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

These reading workshops are also designed to experiment together with families and caregivers with the use of “stimulus books” and facilitated read-aloud techniques, in an effort to create social and community moments that support cognitive (dis)abilities.

The initiative is free of charge and is made possible thanks to the collaboration with Leima Edizioni, a Palermo-based publishing house that we sincerely thank for believing in this project. During the sessions, we will read together "Rosa d’Inverno" by Pippo Visconti, a recently published book by Leima Edizioni, adapting it with techniques that facilitate comprehension and accessibility for neurodivergent individuals.

These two meetings were primarily designed for a group of 10 participants, including our members, volunteers, and patients of our therapists. However, 10 more spots are available!

If you would like to participate, write to us at direttivo@closeinthedistance.com to reserve your spot.
Important: the activity will be entirely in Italian.

We look forward to welcoming you for two afternoons of reading, sharing, and new connections!
